Psychodrama Experiences by Recovering Alcoholics

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to identify the meaning and the essence of psychodrama experiences of recovering alcoholics. Data were collected through in-depth interviews after 5 participants attended 10 psychodrama sessions at the community addiction management center in D City from July till September of 2012. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi‘s phenomenological research method. The results were divided into two stages: ’life of alcoholics’ and ‘recovery by psychodrama’. ’Life of alcoholics’ resulted in 2 categories, 5 theme clusters, and 16 themes. ‘Recovery by psychodrama’ resulted in 3 categories, 7 theme clusters, and 22 themes. ’Life of alcoholics’ were categorized by ‘started life with alcohol’ and ‘precarious family’. ‘Recovery by psychodrama’ were categorized by ‘recovery of family relation’, ‘self-insight’, and ‘expectations for the new life``. Based on these results, it was suggested that psychodrama program be offered to improving family relationships and self-insight.
